Can I use Audio Notetaker with Live Scribe pens?

Last Updated: Jan 26, 2017 10:49AM GMT
From version 2.5, Audio Notetaker can read Livescribe’s .m4a files and you can always import PDF copies of your Livescribe pages.

Thank you to Margaret for the following guide on how to export your files from Livescribe and import them into Audio Notetaker.

You can also import the audio from *.pencast files directly into Audio Notetaker and we will recognise your bookmarks and create sections automatically - all you need to do then is follow the guide below to export your pages as a PDF and import them into Audio Notetaker.

Transferring Livescribe audio and pages to Audio Notetaker

In LiveScribe desktop click Audio button which is near the top the Livescribe window.

Click on the audio file you want to send to Audio Notetaker

Right click on the audio file that you want to send to Audio Notetaker and choose Send  ….  to
Then choose Computer

A window pops up labelled: Sending notes to Computer

On the left hand side of the window choose Audio Only.
Click in the box called Select your file type. Choose M4A Audio
Click Continue button.

Navigate to the folder where you want to store the audio file

Click OK
A message will appear briefly at the top of the screen to say the file has been sent

Then it will say it has been transferred successfully

If you were to search for your file in the folder and if you have set your computer to show file extensions, then you would see that the file has been saved and given the file extension .m4a.

Now let us export the Livescribe Pages:

Right click on the audio file again and choose Send to and choose computer
This time select Pages Only and choose PDF for the file type.

Click the Continue button
Navigate to a folder and save the pages as a PDF file.  The file name will be the name of the notebook and it will be a PDF file.

Launch Audio Notetaker.

Open a New Project tab

Click on the import button

and choose Import Audio

Navigate to the folder you stored the Livescribe audio file in, click on the file and click Open.

This imports the audio in to Audio Notetaker.

Click on the import button and choose Import Slides, (this will import PDF files as well as PowerPoint slides).
Navigate to the folder you stored the Livescribe pages file in, click on the file and click Open.

This imports the Pages to Audio Notetaker.

You can then split your audio up so that the correct pieces align with the correct images in the Image Pane. At any point in your audio press Enter and the remaining audio will be pushed to the next section.
